The Surprise of Woody Allen's 39th film
latimesblogs.latimes.com | Jul 16, 2008
In the old days, everyone would beg me to take them to an early screening of a Woody Allen film. As the '90s wore on, some of the hard-core fans began to move on. Soon the waiting list got shorter ... and shorter ... and ... finally, even my wife stopped going with me.

Legendary Allen's Reaches 1 Year Anniversary of Grand Re-opening - Zibb.com
ATHENS, Ga., Aug 12, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
What do Zell Miller, Lewis Grizzard, Michael Stipe, Mike Bobo, the B-52's, and countless others who have visited Athens, GA all have in common? After Allen's Hamburgers closed its doors in 2004, Athens lost a 50 year tradition of cold beer, greasy burgers, and live music. Some say that Athens' robust music scene got its start in the Normaltown district at Allen's on Prince Ave. Last summer, two University of Georgia alumni, along with the help of the last Allen's owner and the blessing of the old Allen's proprietor/owner's family, re-opened Allen's in a new location at 810 Hawthorne Ave. Allen's is featured in the July issue of Georgia Trend Magazine: http://www.georgiatrend.com/features-business-industry/07_08_allens. shtml (Due to its length, this URL may need to be copied/pasted into your Internet browser's address field. Remove the extra space if one exists.) and had a successful first year since the grand re-opening in terms of business and philanthropy helping support the following non-profit organizations with gifts totaling over $15,000:
-- Athens YMCA
-- Athens Habitat for Humanity
-- Athens Regional Hospital Foundation
-- Children's Healthcare of Atlanta
-- Athens Clarke County Leisure Services (July 4 fireworks show at Bishop Park)
"The re-opening of Allen's is proving that a successful local business can compete effectively against national organizations and still give something back to the community," says co-owner Mark Hammond.
Co-owner Hilt Moree adds that: "We have been humbled and overwhelmed by Athens support of the new Allen's and have big plans for the coming year for local non-profit organizations."
In addition to supporting local charities, Allen's also supports Athens local music scene with live music every weekend. More information, including upcoming shows can be found at: www.allensbarandgrill.com.

Capital Insight Partners: New Media, Sluggish Economy Call for New Strategies in Communication -
CHICAGO, IL, Aug 04, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) --
Companies need to update their media strategies to communicate with investors, analysts, and followers through new media channels as well as the traditional press or risk allowing others to define them.
The key audience companies care about most still get information from venerable names such as the Wall Street Journal, but more than a decade after its rise the Internet still is a place where ill-informed and even malicious sources can have a big voice.
If you are in a niche industry that doesn't get a lot of coverage, imagine the damage that can be done by one self-styled investment expert who either doesn't understand your market, or simply thinks a contrarian view is his ticket to notoriety.
"Information, like power, abhors a vacuum," said Anthony Burke Boylan, media relations manager of Capital Insight Partners. "When you aren't telling your story loudly, clearly and to anyone who will listen, someone else will be."
This is especially true of micro- and small-cap companies, and particularly in a troubled economy. No matter how clearly you state the health of your balance sheet and the prospects of your business, a gloom-and-doom "expert" always will attract an audience.
This is not always true online where there is no vetting and little if any accountability of new media journalists and their sources.
Companies need a media-savvy consultant -- someone with day-in, day-out experience in the rapidly changing communications landscape; someone to help them communicate consistently to their investors, analysts and followers, through every channel possible. Not only will it allow you to tell your story the right way, it will blunt the impact of any ignorant or malicious sources.

Capital Insight Partners (www.cap-insight.com), an investor relations, financial communications and capital markets advisor, aids companies in today's landscape where outreach across a broad spectrum of channels has become more important than ever.
By serving the full spectrum of investor relations and corporate financing requirements for micro and small-cap corporations, Capital Insight Partners helps build a growing, diversified shareholder base, resulting in contented early-stage investors and improving its odds to obtain additional financing should the need arise.

The MB6224 features scalability up to 896 ports of VoIP and provides 24 T1/E1/J1 line interfaces. The MB6108 includes 384 VoIP ports and provides 8 T1/E1/J1 line interfaces. Full product specifications for the new media blades can be accessed from the company's website at http://www.pt.com/products/prodgroup_dsp.html.
Further easing the integration of these high performance products into new and existing communication systems is NexusWare(R), Performance Technologies' CGL 4.0 registered, Linux(R) OS and development environment. NexusWare provides a powerful, consistent API and allows developers deploying the new media blade products to leverage signaling and protocol stacks such as MTP2, SIP, HDLC, and ISDN as well as the required wireline and wireless codecs to bring carrier-grade media solutions to market faster and with fewer resources.
"Our media blade lineup provides crucial building blocks for delivering high density, carrier grade solutions for VoIP applications," said Steven Wigent, product manager for Performance Technologies. "More service providers are shifting their networks to IP everyday and the need to leverage existing infrastructure is going to continue to drive significant growth in the VoIP gateway market. Fiji interim government proposes a new Media Promulgation - Zibb.com
Jul 17, 2008 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) --
Fijis interim regime is formulating a new Media Promulgation, which it says ill incorporate all existing media laws in the country.
The decision has caught the Fiji Media Council by surprise.
More so when the interim attorney general, Aiyaz Saiyad Khaiyum addressed the council yesterday and assured us that media legislation was not envisaged, said Bob Pratt, secretary of the Fiji Media Council.
All existing laws pertaining to the Media vis--vis the Constitution and the Public Order Act, and the Media Code of Ethics and professional standards will be incorporated into a separate Media Promulgation, said a cabinet statement.
The information portfolio, which comes under the responsibility of the interim prime minister, submitted the proposed media legislation to cabinet today.
Under the proposed law, an independent tribunal will be established to hear appeals on complaints lodged with the Media Council.
The Tribunal is to be headed by an independent judge who shall be appointed by the Judicial Services Commission.
It is envisaged that the independent Tribunal will also have the ability to impose fines on companies, editors and publishers should they be found to be in breach of the provisions of the proposed promulgation.
The Tribunal will also have the ability to award compensation to aggrieved parties, the statement said.
Interim PM, Commodore Frank Bainimarama assured the Media Council and other stakeholders will be consulted in the formulation of the proposed media law.
Commodore Bainimarama said his government was conscious of the publics right to accurate and factual information, thus the new legislation.
Once formulated, the Promulgation will be brought to Cabinet for approval.
