Axa Asia Pacific Holdings has finally commented publicly on the takeover bid by AMP and its French parent, Axa SA. Chair Rick Allert and CEO Andrew Penn said that the future value of the Asian operations was greatly underestimated in the deal. As well, the offer does not take account of the value of the Australian Government restrictions on Axa SA.

Axa Asia Pacific Holdings (AAPC) has rejected a $A12bn joint venture takeover proposal from AMP and Axa SA. Under the plan, Axa would take control of AAPC's Asian assets, while AMP would control the group's Australian assets. AAPC directors said the bid did not represent fair value, although they agreed to consider a revised offer. Analysts said ANZ Banking could also launch a takeover bid for AAPC.
