Tandy Leather Factory, Inc. Reports August Sales Down 9% Against August 2007 - Zibb.com

Tandy Leather Factory, Inc. (AMEX: TLF) reported today that sales for the month of August were $4.0 million compared to $4.4 million in August 2007, down 9%. Year to date sales are down 4% to $35.4 million in the current year from $36.8 million last year. Tandy's UK store, which opened in mid-February, reported August sales of $119,000 and $444,000 year-to-date.

Retail Leathercraft posted a 6% sales decline for August, with sales totaling $1.9 million compared to $2.0 million in August 2007. The 70 comparable stores posted an 8% same store sales loss for the month. The 2 stores opened in or after August 2007 added sales for the month of $41,000. Year-to-date sales for Retail Leathercraft are $16.4 million this year, a 2% increase over year-to-date 2007 sales of $16.1 million. As of the end of August, same store sales were down 3% for the year.

Wholesale Leathercraft posted sales of $1.9 million for August, down 18% from August 2007 sales of $2.4 million. Within the Wholesale Leathercraft division, the wholesale stores' sales were down 18% for the month while the National Account group posted an August sales decline of 14%. For the year to date, Wholesale Leathercraft sales are $18.0 million compared to $19.9 million in 2007, a loss of 10%. The stores and National Accounts posted a 10% and 6% sales decline for the year, respectively.

Chief Executive Officer, Ron Morgan, commented, "Sales are getting tough to predict and even tougher to get as evidenced by our August sales. When the consumer is spending his tax rebate check on gas and groceries, I think that speaks volumes about how difficult the current environment really is. The only bright spot this month is our UK store, reporting monthly sales over $100,000 for the first time. Our Canada stores, having outperformed our US stores in previous months, seem to have finally been affected by the slowing economy there. We will continue to generate new sales ideas and stronger offers to attract customers. However, given the economic outlook forecasted for the remainder of the year and into 2009, we are not expecting much of a rebound in sales. As a result, we are lowering our 2008 guidance accordingly."

Shannon Greene, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, stated, "In conjunction with adjusting revenue and earnings guidance, we are only going to open 2 retail stores domestically in 2008, instead of 4-6 as originally announced. There are two reasons for the change in the number of store openings in the US: (1) the challenging retail environment and (2) our manager trainees need more time to develop. The last thing we need right now is new stores struggling for sales being run by inexperienced managers. That recipe guarantees poor performing stores which doesn't make good sense."

Ms. Greene continued, "Cash continues to be our strong suit. We have approximately $10 million at the end of August which is 1/3 of our current market cap. So despite the difficult sales environment, we believe we have strongly positioned ourselves to get through this business cycle, unlike a lot of other retailers who find themselves facing bankruptcy. While we get accused of being too conservative at times, I believe hind-sight will prove we are making the right decisions for now."

Financial Outlook:

Tandy Leather Factory, Inc. Reports July Sales Down 2% Against July 2007 - Zibb.com

Tandy Leather Factory, Inc. (AMEX: TLF) reported today that sales for the month of July were $4.2 million compared to $4.3 million in July 2007, down 2%. Year to date sales are down 3% at $31.4 million in the current year from $32.3 million last year. Tandy's UK store, which opened in mid-February, reported July sales of $89,000 and $326,000 year-to-date.

Retail Leathercraft posted a 6% sales increase for July, with sales totaling $2.0 million compared to $1.9 million in July 2007. The 68 comparable stores posted a 3% same store sales gain for the month. The 4 stores opened in or after July 2007 added sales for the month of $73,000. Year-to-date sales for Retail Leathercraft are $14.5 million this year, a 3% increase over year-to-date 2007 sales of $14.1 million. As of the end of July, same store sales were down 2% for the year.

Wholesale Leathercraft posted sales of $2.0 million for July, down 12% from July 2007 sales of $2.4 million. Within the Wholesale Leathercraft division, the wholesale stores' same store sales were down 13% for the month while the National Account group posted a July sales decline of 7%. For the year to date, Wholesale Leathercraft sales are $16.0 million compared to $17.5 million in 2007, a loss of 8%. The stores and National Accounts posted a 9% and 5% sales decline for the year, respectively.

Chief Executive Officer, Ron Morgan, commented, "Again this month, as was the case in June, our retail business is fairly solid, all things considered. It's our wholesale business that continues to struggle. In looking at the wholesale stores individually, we had half of the stores with sales gains and half with sales losses. Unfortunately, the losses more than offset the gains. As we have mentioned numerous times, this is a tough environment but we will get through it. It takes a lot of extra effort and probably more importantly, patience."

Shannon Greene, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, added, "Our Canada stores again outperformed the US stores as they contributed sales gains in both divisions (Retail and Wholesale). And we continue to be pleased with the revenue at our UK store. Despite the difficult economic situation, we are holding our own in most areas of our business."

Tandy Leather Factory, Inc. Reports June Sales Flat Against June 2007 Retail Leathercraft Up 2%,

Tandy Leather Factory, Inc. (AMEX: TLF) reported today that sales for the month of June were $4.5 million, the same as in June 2007. Year-to-date sales are down 3% at $27.1 million in the current year from $28.0 million last year. Tandy's new UK store, which opened in mid-February, reported June sales of $94,000 and $237,000 year-to-date.

Retail Leathercraft posted a 2% sales increase for June, with sales totaling $2.1 million compared to $2.0 million in June 2007. The 68 comparable stores posted a 1% same store sales loss for the month. The 4 stores opened in or after June 2007 added sales for the month of $72,000. Year-to-date sales for Retail Leathercraft are $12.5 million this year, a 3% increase over year-to-date 2007 sales of $12.2 million. As of the end of June, same store sales were down 3% for the year.

Wholesale Leathercraft posted sales of $2.3 million for June, down 5% from June 2007 sales of $2.4 million. Within the Wholesale Leathercraft division, the wholesale stores' same store sales were down 7% for the month while the National Account group posted a June sales gain of 13%. For the year to date, Wholesale Leathercraft sales are $13.9 million compared to $15.1 million in 2007, a loss of 8%. The comparable wholesale stores posted an 8% sales decline for the year, while National Accounts reported a 5% sales loss. Mid-Continent's year-to-date sales were $312,000, down 20% from the same period in 2007.

Chief Executive Officer and President, Ron Morgan, commented, "All things considered, we're holding our own on the Retail side of the business, although the slight same store sales loss is disappointing after achieving gains for the two prior months. Wholesale continues to show significant weakness although the majority of the sales losses are contained within a handful of stores. Our UK store continues to be a bright spot for us. We held its grand opening the last week of June and were very pleased with the response from customers. I expect we'll see steady top-line growth from that store for a while."

Shannon Greene, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, added, "For the second quarter, we ran a 3% sales gain, with Retail Leathercraft up 5% and Wholesale Leathercraft being flat. The retail same store sales were up 1% for the quarter. That is good news in this economic environment. We also got through the second quarter without a reduction in our cash balances, which is a huge improvement over last year's second quarter when our cash dropped by almost 40% in the second quarter."
