Total revenue for the New York-based oil and gas company rose to $11.74 billion from $7.55 billion a year earlier.

Hess said exploration and production earnings climbed to $1.03 billion from $505 million in 2007. The company's oil and gas production, on a barrel-of-oil equivalent basis, was 393,000 barrels per day, an increase of 4% from the same period a year-ago.
