SANTA CLARA, CA, Nov 19, 2009 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) --
Explosive bandwidth requirements from server virtualization, the adoption of 10 Gigabit Ethernet and server consolidation are driving demand for next-generation data center networks featuring 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Extreme Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXTR) is responding by leveraging IT products distributor Tech Data's Advanced Infrastructure Solutions (AIS) Division to bring Extreme Networks high performance data center solutions to resellers with the experience and network design practices to help customers.
Extreme Networks' data center sales strategy is aimed at working with VARs while expanding the best value proposition to customers for reliable and intelligent Ethernet infrastructure. By teaming with Tech Data's AIS Division, prospective VARs will have access to Extreme Networks channel program and its emerging data center solutions through a 'hands-on' workshop at the Tech Data campus in Clearwater, FL.
Partners will learn to position integrated data center networking solutions using high performance Ethernet for enterprise end users. Additional components of the program include a channel program 'Fast Track' element that immediately elevates selected partners into the Extreme Networks Partner Program for fast access to enablement tools such as data center demo equipment and Market Development Funds (MDF) and specialized data center training for partners.
"Tech Data's depth and experience in bringing resellers and vendors together to address today's data center challenges makes for a powerful resource that VARs can rely on as they arm themselves to help customers with their data center transition," said Christopher Rajiah, director of North American Channels for Extreme Networks. "Extreme Networks offers the industry's strongest commitment to working with the Channel and the data center marks a perfect opportunity to expand our reach."
"The convergence of data center, networking and virtualization technologies is creating exciting opportunities for VARs to deliver more cost-effective IT infrastructure solutions to their end-user customers," said Tech Data Senior Vice President and General Manager, Advanced Infrastructure Solutions, Pete Peterson. "In addition to its broad product offering, Extreme Networks' 'Fast Track' program puts in place the sales, marketing and technical support VARs need to capitalize on the demand for these new data center solutions. Through the AIS Division, Tech Data will help Extreme Networks recruit and enable VARs to bring their solutions to end users nationwide."
Extreme Networks offers a complete solution set of intelligent and scalable 10 Gigabit Ethernet networking solutions tailored for the data center. SANTA CLARA, CA, Nov 17, 2009 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) --
Extreme Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXTR) continues to innovate with products for the data center by addressing power consumption and operational costs. Extreme Networks is now shipping a greener, more energy efficient version of its Summit(R) X650 10GBASE-T data center switch, a high performance 10GbE, Top-of-Rack Ethernet switch, designed for the next generation data center, cloud computing and hosted environments.
A second generation 10 Gigabit, Top-of-Rack switch, the Summit X650-24t consumes 200W less power during operation than the first generation, to address the energy efficiency goals of data center planners. The Summit X650 is complemented with Intel's new lower power 10GBASE-T adapter that provides state-of-the-art interfaces to high performance servers.
Earlier this year, Extreme Networks was also the first to support copper 10 Gigabit (10GBASE-T) with the Summit X650 Top-of-Rack data center switch, complementing a complete 10GBASE-T ecosystem, from high performance server adapters to switches.
"Power savings is critical to the data center where space, heat and bandwidth have to be optimized," said Harpreet Chadha, senior director of product management for Extreme Networks. "Delivery of the latest generation Summit X650 offers excellent energy efficiency and provides customers with cost-effective 10GbE options for standard RJ45 copper interfaces using CAT 5 and CAT 6 cabling, up to 100 meters, making it a perfect fit for the data center."
Extreme Networks provides a high performance solution for the Data Center market by bundling 10GBASE-T Ethernet switches and Network Interface Cards through distribution channels, resulting in a cost-effective and interoperable solution for 10 gigabit over copper applications.
"10GBASE-T is the driver for broader adoption of 10GbE because of its simplicity, backward compatibility with 1000BASE-T, and low cost copper cabling," said Steve Schultz, director of marketing, Intel LAN Access Division. "We expect to see 10GBASE-T on server motherboards in the not too distant future. This is essential because 10GbE is the unified networking fabric for next generation data centers."
The Summit X650 is designed with the same resilient and trusted ExtremeXOS(R) operating system and SummitStack(TM) stacking technology uniquely available across the Extreme Networks switch portfolio. The Summit X650 switch also supports both 10GBASE-T copper and SFP+ fiber, the latest small form factor transceiver technology enabling high density 10GbE network connectivity. Extreme Networks SummitStack stacking technology initially deployed to mix Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet switches in the same virtual chassis is now leveraged to mix Gigabit Ethernet switches with the Summit X650 10G switches, allowing for simple and cost-effective migration to 10 Gigabit technology in the data center.
