ROLLS-ROYCE WINS $350 MILLION ORDER FROM TURKISH FLAG CARRIER FOR ADDITIONAL
TRENT 700 ENGINES
Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has won a $350m order, at list
prices, for Trent engines to power five Airbus A330 aircraft for Turkish
Airlines (Turk Hava Yollari). The contract includes long-term TotalCare service
support. Aircraft deliveries will start in 2010. This follows the July 2009
announcement that Trent 700 engines will also power seven THY A330 aircraft, a
contract valued at $470m at list prices.
Candan Karlitekin, Chairman Turkish Airlines, said: "We are pleased to make a
second selection for Rolls-Royce engines for our A330 fleet. The aircraft
represents an exciting new phase of development for the airline and our
shareholders. The commitment of Rolls-Royce in supporting our ambitions is an
important factor in our plans."
Nick Devall, Rolls-Royce Executive Vice President - Customer Business, said:
"We are delighted that Turkish Airlines has again chosen Rolls-Royce technology
to power additional A330 aircraft. The Trent 700 is a market leader and we are
committed to working closely with the airline as they continue to develop their
fleet."
The Trent 700, the only engine specifically designed for the A330, remains the
market leader for the aircraft, achieving more than 70 per cent of new orders
over the last three years.
The THY aircraft will feature an enhanced performance version of the Trent 700
which improves engine performance by a further 1.3 per cent - confirming its
position on the A330 as best for fuel burn and emissions as well as thrust and
noise.
The latest THY order for Trent 700 engines will cover three A330 passenger
aircraft and two A330 freighter aircraft.

ROLLS-ROYCE NORTH AMERICAN TECHNOLOGIES, INC. SELECTED BY U.S. AIR FORCE TO
COMPLETE ADVENT RESEARCH DEMONSTRATOR PROGRAM
Rolls-Royce North American Technologies, Inc. has achieved a major milestone in
the Adaptive Versatile Engine Technology (ADVENT) demonstrator program, and was
selected by the U.S. Air Force to proceed with Phase II development. Next steps
for this key USAF technology program will include the integration of a variety
of advanced technologies, component testing and development of a technology
demonstrator core and engine.
This authorization to proceed follows successful completion earlier this year
of a series of tests and analysis on a technology demonstrator core and
adaptive engine. Designed to provide significant improvement in average fuel
consumption, this core and engine will be available for future U.S. military
aerospace platforms, including medium or large unmanned air systems.
Phil Burkholder, Chief Operating Officer, Rolls-Royce North American
Technologies, Inc., added: "We are delighted to continue to support the shared
vision of creating an ADVENT family of next generation engines that deliver the
range and persistence required for 21stcentury aircraft, including unmanned air
systems. The relationship with the AFRL is one of our most long standing, and
we look forward to continuing our partnership on the ADVENT program that will
deliver a step-change in aerospace propulsion technology."
The ADVENT technology demonstrator program, undertaken by Rolls-Royce North
American Technologies, Inc. (LibertyWorks), is funded by the U.S. Air Force
Research Laboratory (AFRL). ADVENT is part of the Versatile Affordable Advanced
Turbine Engines (VAATE) Program, an initiative sponsored by industry and
Government partners to advance state of the art turbine engine technology for
military and commercial aviation.

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct 15, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ --
Goodrich Corporation (NYSE: GR) has signed a research agreement with Rolls-Royce to develop the next generation of fuel nozzles for "lean burn" combustion technology systems, which would be used on future environmentally responsible gas turbine aircraft engines. Goodrich also has been selected to supply Rolls-Royce with the combustion system fuel nozzles for the new Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engine program for the Airbus A350XWB commercial aircraft. All work will be performed by Goodrich's Engine Components team in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Lean burn technology allows for a more complete combustion cycle, which reduces emissions and increases efficiency. Goodrich's lean burn research and development program focuses on advanced combustion fuel nozzles designed to meet increasingly stringent requirements for reduced emissions on next generation aircraft. Lean burn technology can significantly reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, improving local air quality around airports and reducing aviation's climate change footprint.
Daphne Falletti, president of Goodrich Engine Components, said "These opportunities with Rolls-Royce to develop breakthrough technology and provide products for their next generation engine programs further strengthen our market position in advanced combustion systems."
